For the Well-being of both Mankind and the Earth
Shimadzu Environmental Management
Shimadzu plans to expand business activities and increase corporate value in the following four directions by becoming an “eco solution provider” and solving environmental problems.
Four Policies for Shimadzu Group Environmental Management
(1) Improve environmental friendliness of all products
Improve the energy efficiency and reduce the size of all products to minimize their environmental impact over the entire product life cycle.
(2) Reduce environmental impact of overall business processes
Shimadzu aims to minimize its environmental impact by using solar or other renewable energies and strengthening links with suppliers to reduce hazardous chemical substances use.
(3) Provide solutions for environmental testing and alternative energy
Shimadzu provides environmental analysis and measuring instruments for water, air, or soil, and also offers products and technologies for developing new materials and alternative energies.
(4) Support environmental conservation activities
Shimadzu is involved in a wide range of activities, such as planting forests to protect biodiversity and holding classes to educate people about the environment.
Activities to Reduce CO2 Emissions
It is Shimadzu’s responsibility to reduce our environmental impact by minimizing the quantity of CO2 emitted by business activities. The Board of Directors decided to commit to achieving a 30 % reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030, compared to 2017 levels.
Health and protecting the global environment are a common desire of people throughout the world. To embody our core management principle of “Realising our wishes for the well-being of both mankind and Earth“, we have made integrating our business activities with global environment preservation one of our highest operating primacies.
By using the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, Shimadzu has worked to reduce our environmental impact and prevent pollution, such as by reducing company-wide CO2 emissions, reducing and reusing waste, appropriately controlling chemical substances, and protecting biodiversity. The new head office building completed in June 2014, incorporates various features to save energy, such as automatically controlling windows to minimize the effects of direct sunlight and using natural air flow for the air conditioning system.
Shimadzu Integrated Report
Shimadzu has combined its Annual Report and Environmental and Social Report into a single document and named it the “Shimadzu Integrated Report“. Shimadzu”s “Medium and Long-Term Programs,” will continue to reduce the burden on the environment due to business activities and contribute to creating a low-carbon future through our core business, the development of product.
Since global-scale efforts are necessary to deal with issues such as greenhouse gas emission, global warming and energy related issues; Shimadzu continues with our “Save the Energy Project”.
Its aim is to develop new products with high energy-saving potential that can consume at least 25% less power than former models resulting in reduced running costs as well as combating global warming.
